York come from behind against Braintree for third successive win

York City came from behind to beat Braintree Town 2-1 at the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday.

The Minstermen fell behind to a goal from Charlie Sheringham, but goals from Lenell John-Lewis and Olly Dyson secured all three points for the hosts.

York started the game brightly and created several chances in the opening minutes, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Braintree took the lead against the run of play in the 35th minute when Sheringham fired home from close range.

York equalised just before half-time when John-Lewis headed home from a corner.

The Minstermen continued to press for a winner in the second half and were rewarded in the 75th minute when Dyson scored from close range.

York held on for the win and moved up to 15th in the National League table.

Manager John Askey was pleased with his team's performance, especially after they fell behind.

"We showed great character to come from behind and win the game," he said.

"We created a lot of chances and deserved to win.

"It was a good win for us and we can now look forward to our next game."

York's next game is away to Woking on Tuesday, 29th November.
